Would You Have Your Chest Massaged By a Porn Star?

Judge not, that ye be not judged. ~ Matthew 7:1

The EMS forums are currently all atwitter with the issue of a former pornographic actress volunteering at her local rescue squad.

Seems Tracy Rolan, before she decided to become an EMT, showed off her hoo ha (including how well it works) in over 200 adult films from 2004-2010, under the stage name Harmony Rose.

Now it seems that public officials and a bunch of self-appointed EMS hall monitors are scandalized and shocked  – shocked, I tell you! – that such a thing could happen. I mean, this will be the end of our profession! How will we ever overcome the stigma?

I'll weigh in on the matter, however briefly:

EMT's do quite a good job of harming the public perception of EMS WHILE THEY'RE ON DUTY without us obsessing over how they act off-duty, on their blogs, or God forbid, in whatever career they had before they got into EMS.

One of the best medics I ever trained had felony convictions for armed robbery, drug possession, resisting arrest and five counts of grand theft auto, perpetrated in the midst of a multi-state crime spree.

He was a 17-year-old kid with a drug habit and undiagnosed manic-depressive disorder at the time. When he applied for his paramedic exam, seems the only ones who thought he deserved a second chance were me, his parole officer, the prosecuting attorney (by then a judge), and NREMT.

I'd still trust him with my life, and he's a sterling ambassador for our profession. EMS helped him turn his life around.

I wonder if the nursing profession is gnashing their teeth because Nina Hartley has been working her money maker on-camera for thirty years?

Yes, I do anal. I'm also a registered nurse.

I have a couple of suggestions for those who are scandalized by the fact that a former pornographic actress would dare endure the months of training required to enter the exalted ranks of EMS:

1. Judge the girl by how well she performs as an EMT, not how often she performed before she became one.

2. Look to the way you represent the profession before you worry about someone else.

  • Ross

As a potential patient, my only worry is: Is she competent?

If the answer is yes, then I do not give a flying fuck at a rolling donut what she used to do, or, for that matter, what she does with her off time. Just do not care.

  • Joe A.

If they let David Lee Roth do it, why not a porn star?

    • mr618

I was wondering if someone was going to mention Mr. Roth. If I’m in the middle of an emergency, either one could work on me, but I’d prefer it be Ms. Rolan. She’s a LOT cuter (at least, she is to a straight male… my wife would prefer Roth)

  • ZerCool

I’m waiting for the huge amounts of butt-hurt that come out the first time her shift partner(s) get turned down. Other than that, like Ross, competence is all that matters.

    • Scott Kenny

Are we sure that ‘butthurt’ is the proper description… [/snark]

Is she competent, is she clean.  That’s all I care about.

  • CRMedic

“He/She that is without sin among you, let him/her cast the first stone”

  • mpatk

Only two things should matter. First, that she’s competent. Second, that she not mix her old and new careers e.g “performing” on the engine.

After all, it’s not like she’s in Los Angeles…

Having been in the ME for the past year, me and the “moral majority” are going to have some issues when I get home.  It seems as always, some peoples idea of a free country is one in which everyone thinks and acts exactly as they do.  Sorry, but that’s not freedom, nor should it be an attitude tolerated in the US.  As to this particular case, if she’s competent and I need an ambulance then I don’t care what she used to do, or does on her day off for that matter.  However, she IS one of those damn EMS volunteers and I’m not really not all that crazy about that! lol

    • Ambulance_Driver

Yeah, let’s condemn her for being a lowlife, scum sucking volunteer taking the food out of the mouths of paid EMT’s!
That’s WORSE than being a porn star! ;)

The more ways a woman can choose to exit the porn industry, the better.  More power to her.

      • MattG

Looks like you fat-fingered the S key, there, partner. ;)

    • mr618

Geoff, come on up here to Maine, where the paid services are few and far between. If you feel that strongly about the vols, make sure your MedicAlert says “paid EMS only.” Hopefully, you’ll last the 35-40 minutes for them to arrive.

(Of course, if you’re snarking, I withdraw the above and apologize. Society needs some way of demonstrating that on line)

      • Ambulance_Driver

Andrew, I think he’s just riffing on the “volunteers are bad” meme, mostly in jest.

        • Matt G

You know, Tracy Rolan used to get paid for what most folks volunteer to do for free.

Now she volunteers to do what Geoff does for pay.

I wonder if Miz Tracy sat around bitching about the likes of Geoff, while she was back at her old gig. ;)

          • Geoffrey Horning

Ha! 3 months later, I finally notice the comment! I feel I must defend myself. I’m currently program directing, teaching, putting out spot fires and generally cleaning up messes caused by 30 years of greed and incompetence. So while I work very hard for my money, what “exactly” I do “for pay” is hazy, varied, and changes on a daily basis. Who knows, next week I could be in charge of the whole thing or scrubbing toilets. As long as the paycheck doesn’t bounce, I’ll be here a little longer!

      • Geoffrey Horning

Kelly’s pretty much got me figured on this one.  I was mainly just teasing.  But I will say that the Vols are in a tough spot, if they don’t do it their community will suffer immediately, if they do, no councilman or alderman in his/her right mind will want to push for a paid service for the next 10 years or more…I just think that cities and counties should set their priorities straight.  I’ve never seen volunteer garbage collectors or linemen.

I did some training up in Edgewood, MD once, that’s about as far North East as I’ve made it.  I hear Maine is pretty darn nice though with some great Lobster and my favorite author lives there…So if the invitation still stands, and I ever make it up there, then anybody who knows what there doing can take care of me!

Funny thing:  I talked to those MD guys for a while, a lot of them were paid fire/volunteer EMS.  I thought that was kinda backwards and told them that in the Midwest, we did Paid EMS and Volunteer Fire…They gasped and said WHAT?!  What if something burns?  I shrugged my shoulders and said “well, we do our best”  Then I said “what if someone has an MI or a CVA?  They shrugged their shoulders and said “well, we do our best”.  None of our systems are perfect.  True story.

  • Geoffrey Horning

Oh and I just had two other thoughts…First of all I hope she gets royalties, because if so the big “controversy” just turned her revenue “stream” into the Mississippi river, but secondly and maybe much more importantly…Kelly did I miss something in EMS?  Since when do we massage our patients chests?…Maybe I’ve been doing 12 leads wrong or something…

    • Ambulance_Driver

Well, chest compressions were once known as “external cardiac massage.”

  • Starjack

Well, I say, good for her!

AD, you know that I’m not a prude– far from it. But I can tell you that in all my years as a practicing pervert, I’ve NEVER seen the likes of what I’ve seen in the last 7 or 8 months that I’ve been running around with the boys and girls of EMS and fire service. I didn’t even know that I could blush, any more. So if folks in that profession are wringing hands about a porn star, then they’re either amazingly naïve about others in their profession who apparently do that stuff for free and/or in various stages of On-Call, or they’re damned hypocrites.

  • http://jenn-livingproof.blogspot.in/ Jenn

Sure.  So long as she knows more about how to handle whatever emergency I am having than the others I am with, I am totally in favor of her presence and assistance.  What she does the rest of her life, outside of that one hour or so that she spends with me… I really don’t care in the least.

  • Frank Ney

Remember that Roanoke is in the Bible Belt.  Which means you get hit with both the bible and the belt.  Far as I’m concerned, if she passed EMT-B like the rest of us, there is no reason why she can’t ride with us.

Frankly, I’d like to freeze the work computers of both the Fire Chief and the county attorney and do a “security audit”.  Let’s see how much porn and other illegal  or “immoral” stuff we find and make that the next special report on TV.

And your guy would have never gotten a chance in NY. By law felony convictions are an absolute bar to EMS certification at any level. In fact, the Bureau of EMS exceeds their mandate by making any conviction a potential bar to certification (or recertification) that requires a lawyer’s intervention to overcome.

As one who has only been on the receiving end of emergency medical care, the idea of what the people in the loudbox had been doing before, after, or between their dwelling within it was only very slightly less remote from my mind than the subtleties of 1940s Soviet jazz.

  • Matt House

Last time I had to be scraped up, the EMS team were large, particularly ugly, and one of them had breath that would -melt- a clock, nevermind stop it. I was still very happy to see them, Halitosis and all. still, the idea of -pretty- EMTs sounds lovely. And, after I’m doing being screwed by billing, can I get screwed by her to?

  • JK

I really don’t understand why sex is such a big deal…really, almost everyone is doing it and those that aren’t wish they were…Those that care…
    get over yourselves!!
