The New Partner

Well, after Nitrous moved to a day shift, The Borg saddled me for months with a succession of part-timers, fill-ins, and a couple of brand new EMTs who were somewhat averse to night shifts and personal responsibility.

They didn’t last long.

The new partner, I have hopes for. A former Marine, he joined the Corps with the goal of being a Marine medic. When the recruiter snorted and told them the Navy recruiter was next door, he replied, “To hell with that, I don’t wanna be a squid,” so he joined the Marines anyway.

After he got out, he went to EMT school.

He has a very distinctive last name, one shared by a famous World War II general, and holder of the Medal of Honor.

I finally got around to asking him about it, and it turns out the general in question was his great-grandfather.

Since it looks like he may hang around long enough to merit an Official Ambulance Driver Partner Pseudonym (TM), I have decided to call him, in honor of great-Granddad, “Skinny.”

Y’all stay tuned for upcoming adventures of AD and Skinny.
