“So, do you want to hear about the Double D BAMF?”

As opening lines of sales pitches go, that one’s an attention-getter. When delivered by a female sales rep who accurately matches that description, it’s even more effective.

Turns out, the DD BAMF stands for the “Dual Drop, Billet Aluminum Modular Firearm” from Cobalt Arms.

A nice attendee agreed to pose with the rifle. If it had been the sales rep, no one would have noticed the gun.

I know it looks chrome plated, but that’s actually polished aluminum. They’re cool-looking guns, but cool doesn’t count for much when it’s time to shoot.

Cobalt’s twist on the AR15 platform – aside from the gnarly styling – is that all their controls are ambidextrous. Charging handle, safety, forward assist, bolt release and mag release can be operated from either side.

Two is one, one is none, right?

And while a great many people question the utility of the forward assist in modern AR platforms, the neat thing about the BAMF is that the forward assist is also the bolt release. Just reach up with your thumb and press the button, and you’re back in battery.

I think that’s kinda cool. I just don’t know if it’s “Hey, that’s something you don’t see every day!” kinda cool, or “Why has no one thought of this before?” cool.
