Inside EMS podcast: LODD Benefits for EMS Responders

In this week’s episode of Inside EMS, co-host Chris Cebollero and I discuss the latest EMS news and events, including the bill passed by the Kentucky House to extend Line of Duty Death (LODD) benefits to the families of EMS responders.

In my opinion, every EMT who dies in the line of duty should be entitled to LODD benefits. Public, FD, hospital-based, or for-profit EMS, all should be treated the same. If an EMT answers 911 calls and dies in the line of duty, that EMT’s family should be entitled to the same benefits given to the families of cops and firefighters.

If you live in Kentucky, call your state Senator and voice your strong support of the Mackey Act. It’s important.

We also discuss friend and colleague Dave Konig’s petition to set a Federal mandated minimum wage for EMS. We’re skeptical that it will bear fruit, and though I share Dave’s motivation I’m not sure I agree with the tactic.

Still, I signed the petition, and you can add your signature here.
