Law Enforcement in the Social Media Generation

Deputy1: “Y’all are gonna be taking this guy to the ED just as soon as we get through with him.”

Ambulance Driver: “Okay, what’s wrong with him?”

Deputy 2: “Got a little scuffed up resisting arrest. His buddy rabbited, and we’re trying to get him to give him up.”

Deputy 1: “I recognize the other guy. Richard, Richmond, something like that.”

Deputy 3: “Richard. Local meth head. I’ve busted him half a dozen times. Drives a silver late model truck. Can’t remember his first name, though.”

Deputy 1 (pulling his iPad from the front seat of his cruiser): “Hang on a sec, I’m Facebook friends with his girlfriend… got it!”

AD (reading over his shoulder): “Erica is in ‘it’s complicated’ with Danny B. Richard…”

Deputy 3 (triumphantly):Danny. Yeah, that was it. Danny B. Richard. Lives out on Triche Road.”

Deputy 2 (speaking on the radio): “Dispatch, 304. Stand by for BOLO. White male, late twenties, roughly 5’11, 160, dirty blonde hair -”

AD (looking over Deputy 1’s shoulder at his profile pic): “Blue eyes.”

Deputy 2: ” – blue eyes, name is Richard, Danny B. Drives a silver late model… stand by…” (looks expectantly at Deputy 3, eyebrows raised)

Deputy 3: ” … ”

Deputy 1: “Wait a sec, I think I saw a pic of it in Erica’s photo albums…”

AD: “Y’all know this is getting blogged, right?”
