They Laughed, They Cried…

… they held their lighters aloft and swayed rhythmically. Women threw their panties on the stage, men bought me drinks.

You know, the usual.

The folks at the Western Massachusetts EMS Association were gracious enough to have me deliver the keynote addresses and a few other talks at the 2014 Massachusetts EMS Conference this weekend, and my sweetheart and I had a blast.

Along the way, Team Ambo Drivers won the inaugural EMS Bowl trivia contest put on by the folks at MedicEd.com. My knowledge is nothing if not trivial, people.

And by “won,” I mean spanked.

Annihilated.

Humiliated.

Beat ’em like they stole something.

Okay, maybe we didn’t win by that big a margin, but it would have been bigger if Yours Truly hadn’t given away at least five questions by being too quick on the buzzer.

Still, a good time was had by all, and we appreciate the great folks at MedicEd for putting it on, and the other teams who participated.

Yesterday was my forty (mumble mumble) birthday, and a number of my friends from cyberspace stopped by to help me celebrate it in meatspace, among them my brother from another mother, EMS Artifact, and his lovely wife.

That diabolically clever doohickey is a laryngoscope bottle opener, folks. Even better, it requires proper laryngoscopic technique to open a beer with it. Crank back, and bottle no open. Do the Superman “up, up, and away” technique, and the cap, she comes right off.

So now, I can hone my already mad airway skillz every time I open a beer, which is schweeeeet.

And proving that he leaves no base uncovered, Mark thoughtfully converted the ‘scope’s battery compartment into cigar storage.

I’d like to thank the folks from the Western Massachusetts EMS Association for having me, and all the folks who attended for their kind words. If you’re from the area, you should definitely attend this conference next year.
